Think of it as a date. Even though engagement photos may be necessary for your save-the-date cards, your session can also be just for fun. My style in photographing couples focuses on intentionality and authenticity. When you treat your engagement session as another date to enjoy before the wedding, then I’m ready to capture that in real time! See how these two found their way around Hotel Du Pont in Wilmington, Delaware for their engagement date!

Hotel Du Pont Wilmington: Finding the Perfect Fit

For an engagement photoshoot that you treat like a date, it’s OK to explore at your own pace. Brandon and Bree chose to wander through the heart of Wilmington, Delaware finding some absolutely fantastic architectural shots on various streets.

When researching your own ideas for an engagement shoot, I often suggest choosing a single area where you can explore different parts of it! Limiting ourselves to a specific region simplifies transportation and opens up many possibilities for capturing both indoor and outdoor city engagement photos.

Hotel Du Pont Wilmington holds some history for these two high school sweethearts because it happens to be where their prom was held. Then the football player and cheerleader, she was the first brunette he ever dated, and she thought he was funny but also just a brutish football guy (now she sees him as very considerate!). These two love trying new drinks together and have always enjoyed the bar inside of the hotel’s restaurant, the Le Cavalier.

Getting to use this location for some old world cocktail bar shots was a big deal to them!

Cast a Vision, But Have a Backup Plan

Following our time at the Hotel Du Pont Wilmington, we walked over to Brandywine Park, a Wilmington, Delaware spot with stunning views of the Brandywine River.

This was actually the couple’s rescheduled session due to rain since they were not going for the look of rainy engagement photos. It’s always important to be prepared with a backup plan when you are looking to do spring engagement photos outdoors. When a downpour showed up on their original date we just used the rain plan date instead!

Part of what Bree always envisioned for the session was also having all the memories to regularly look back on. I captured a ton of BTS video footage for her to scroll through on her phone which is an add-on option to my packages!

A Love Story with a History That Also Looks Ahead

Even though this Hotel Du Pont Wilmington engagement session is still a step on the path to their wedding day, the couple is already anticipating the future. Brandon noted that he’s looking forward to their mid-forties together. He sees that by then they will be wealthy enough to acquire all the things they desire in their life as a married couple. He is excited about what they can do together with this kind of financial freedom. For Bree, that’s an anticipation of traveling and finally having a home together!

Brandon knew right away that she was the one and has loved watching her growth journey. He treasures being along for the ride as she discovers what she likes and grows into her own person. Bree loves that he pulls her out of her comfort zone and values watching him excel in his passion for learning new things.

Their care for each other is so obvious, and shooting their engagement photos was completely natural as I followed their love on this romantic date.

Let’s discover your own engagement session vision either for one spot or many!
